Matvienko felt that Belarus was determined to integrate with Russia
This was stated by the speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, Valentina Matvienko, following her visit to Belarus, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We heard and felt that in Belarus there is a strong commitment to continuing deep cooperation with the Russian Federation on the foundation of the commonality of our history, culture, language, spirituality, and faith. This is all very sincere,” says Matvienko.
She noted that she had known President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko for a long time and therefore could discuss issues “directly, openly, without avoiding any problems.” Matvienko claims that he and Lukashenko agreed that Russia and Belarus “must continue strategic cooperation.”
“When cooperation is so multifaceted, some miscalculations and mistakes happen, but there is always the political will to resolve them. They are resolved in a working manner, without harming our relations. I think that the agenda that exists today will be resolved in a calm working mode, taking into account each other’s interests, on an equal basis, taking into account respect for the sovereignty of our countries, in a friendly, trusting manner,” Matvienko concluded.
It is noteworthy: earlier, the head of the Federation Council convinced journalists that because of the coronavirus, she does not hug anyone or shake hands with anyone. However, protocol footage from Lukashenko’s office recorded that this was not the case.
