Matvienko called for an attack on Latvia and Ukraine
In Ukraine and Latvia, the persecution of the Russian language is becoming an element of state policy, and opponents of de-Russification are subject to repression.
Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko stated this in Livadia at the “Great Russian Word” forum.
“The persecution of the Russian language is becoming an element of state policy in some countries,” she said, mentioning Latvia and Ukraine, where, according to Matvienko, the rights of millions of Russian-speaking citizens are violated and Russian activists are subject to “threats and repression.”
“This is the vaunted democracy,” Matvienko said, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the speaker, the fight against de-Russification “lacks activity and offensiveness.” Matvienko cited the example of Soviet Russia, which, despite the difficult economic situation in the 1930s, massively sent Russian language textbooks to Central Asia and organized a Russian-language educational process there.
“Crimea and Sevastopol defended together... Let us defend the Russian world and the Russian language with the same energy, defend the rights of our compatriots,” the speaker urged.
