Matvienko revealed the intrigue with the flag of Ukraine
Ukraine remains a participant in the Interparliamentary Assembly of CIS Member States, although its delegation ignores work within the CIS.
Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko announced this at a meeting of the IPA CIS, answering a journalist’s question about the presence of the Ukrainian flag at the meeting, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Statements are statements, but Ukraine has not officially submitted an application to withdraw from the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly. And strictly in accordance with the convention, we continue to inform the Verkhovna Rada about the activities of the IPA. They are invited to all our events. Unfortunately, the Verkhovna Rada delegation has not come and taken part in work on the CIS in recent years. In 2014, the representative of the Verkhovna Rada was recalled. The premises assigned to Ukraine as to each national delegation are empty. But the flag remains. The flag is not only a symbol of the state, it is the choice of the people. And we really hope that the current Ukrainian government will not have time to make an irreparable decision. We hope that the people will not allow her to do this,” she said.
