Matvienko announced when senators from the new territories will begin work in Moscow
Already this week, 6 senators from new regions of Russia will begin work in the Federation Council.
Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko stated this at a press conference today, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In accordance with the current legislation, the authorities of our new constituent entities decided to delegate 6 senators: 4 senators from the executive branch and 2 (from the Donetsk and Lugansk regions) from the legislative branch.
The two remaining senators from the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions will be delegated after the elections of regional parliaments on the day of the single vote in September next year. But 6 senators will immediately join our work,” Matvienko said.
According to her, the flags of the new constituent entities have already been installed in the Federation Council, and seats in the meeting room and work rooms have been prepared for the new senators.
“And we want to present them with certificates on December 23 so that they feel like full-fledged senators of the Russian Federation. It seems logical and correct to me that this year we are completing the process of forming the senatorial corps at the expense of new subjects of the federation. They must have their representatives at the federal level,” Matvienko said.
She recalled that the President of the Russian Federation has set a task to equalize the level of development of new regions with the national level by 2030.
“Starting from the beginning of next year, we will actively assist new regions in bringing their regional legislation into line with Russian legislation. We will provide practical support. Our commission of legislators has already begun this work. We will do everything so that, as soon as possible, these subjects not only legally feel like Russians, but also in all areas of activity feel that they are full citizens of Russia,” Matvienko said.
