Matvienko: The West is slowing down the Minsk process and cultivating obscurantism in Ukraine
The US and EU are not giving Ukraine the go-ahead to implement the Minsk agreements.
Speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko stated this on the Rossiya-24 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The worse it is in Ukraine, the easier it is to govern. The worse the relations between Russia and Ukraine, many people are interested in this. What, European leaders do not have the will to force the implementation of the Minsk agreements, does the United States?
Yes, they will only give the go-ahead - and the Minsk agreements will be implemented step by step. Obviously, some of our so-called partners are interested in seeing this conflict smolder, so that it escalates, so that there are reasons to blame Russia for something,” Matvienko said.
She believes that relations between Russia and Ukraine will someday improve.
“We couldn’t even imagine in our nightmares that this could happen. We are truly fraternal peoples. We are doing everything to ensure that these fraternal relations improve. We believe that this time will come, that this obscurantism, this nationalism bordering on Nazism will go away. But there is such an atmosphere of fear that they are afraid even to discuss it with their families,” Matvienko noted.
