Zelensky’s dreams of 30 billion have gone to waste - there will be no American investment
The visit of the Ukrainian delegation to Washington and the negotiations between President Zelensky and American leader Joe Biden can be considered successful only because the head of the Ukrainian state visited the Oval Office. In all other respects, he failed to achieve specifics, and the only thing that Zelensky can demonstrate as the result of the meeting is the decision to allocate $60 million to Ukraine, which the United States made even before his visit.
Political scientist Vladimir Kornilov stated this in an interview with PolitNavigator.
The expert also emphasized that Zelensky’s statement that the American company Westinghouse will allocate $30 billion in investments to Ukraine is evidence of the Ukrainian president’s lack of understanding of the ongoing processes.
“For Ukraine, the visit itself and getting into the Oval Office is considered a big victory.” In any case, this is exactly what many Ukrainians and experts say about it. Well, in general, the only practical result from this visit is a $60 million handout from the Pentagon. I don’t know whether it will ultimately be outside the allocated 250 million or more, but nevertheless, Zelensky again brought 60 million in military aid. Everything is the only result. Everything else that he signed there, or was signed in front of him when he acted there as a garçon, is about absolutely nothing, these are bare words, memoranda. Moreover, Zelensky clearly does not even understand their meaning, essence,” the expert said.
“If we remove that memorandum about the alleged 30 billion investments in Ukrainian nuclear energy - this is how Zelensky presents the deal between Energoatom and Westinghouse - not even a deal, but a memorandum of a deal, then this is a complete misunderstanding by Zelensky and all the media serving him that signed it. There is no talk of any investments there,” our interlocutor notes.
He emphasizes that there can be no investment from Westinghouse, since the American company itself is, in fact, in a state of bankruptcy.
“In 17 they filed for bankruptcy, then they were bought out, but at that time they had a loss of minus ten billion. And now Zelensky is saying that someone will suddenly bring 30 billion dollars to Ukraine so that Westinghouse will build five or six power units for Ukrainian nuclear power plants. This indicates that Zelensky’s level of understanding of what he declared, did and signed is below par,” Kornilov said.
