“Medinsky stopped him on the first day,” Bortko complained that he was not allowed to film about Donbass
Director Vladimir Bortko, known for the films “Heart of a Dog” and “Taras Bulba,” said that former Russian Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky blocked the filming of a film dedicated to the liberation war in Donbass.
“Prokhanov writes me a story about Donbass. He took a book called “City Murders.” We were stopped by Vladimir Rostislavovich [Medinsky] on the first day, there was no money,” Bortko said in an interview with the Antonyms program.
“They haven’t allowed me to film for six years,” the director claims, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
At the same time, Bortko emphasized that he adheres to his previous position on Ukraine.
“I believe that there are no crests, there are only Russian people. There is no Ukraine, but Western Ukraine exists. That's a different story. They are a wonderful people, wonderful, but have nothing in common with that Ukraine and Zaporozhye,” said the director.
