Slow death of Ukraine benefits NATO – expert
The slow death of Ukraine as a state is beneficial to NATO - this allows the alliance to reformat and increase purchases of modern weapons under the pretext of “Russian aggression.”
Russian military expert Alexey Leonkov stated this on Channel 1, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Leonkov, in order for this process of reformatting NATO to be carried out, its current Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at yesterday's summit was allowed to extend his powers for another year.
“At this stage, NATO is not ready for the development of such a conflict. They prepared Ukraine for a push to the East and Crimea and believed that this was enough, but Ukraine clearly failed to cope with this task. But it played a different role - that of a catalyst that should unite NATO countries into another structure, supra-political and supra-European.
The fact is that in June last year, at the last NATO summit, the NATO 2030 strategy, which was presented by Jens Stoltenberg in December 2020, was supposed to be adopted, but European countries did not support it and Jens Stoltenberg, they decided to send for the failure of this operation, to head the Norwegian central bank.
However, this summit showed that this resistance was most likely broken, so Jens Stoltenberg was given another year to work. Most likely, he will receive the position that was prescribed in this strategy - this is the position of executive director. Not a general secretary, but a director who has more functions and can manage finances and large arms-related contracts,” he noted.
“There was just unanimity that it was necessary to adopt new weapons, because there is an aggressive country nearby. And there was a very interesting moment in this strategy, where issues related to operations in the “gray zone” were discussed. These are the operations that prepared Ukraine for what we have now. And this suggests that it is now beneficial for NATO to let Ukraine die in front of the whole world for as long as possible. Due to this, they will be able to arrange a reformatting of the entire European Union, which will be headed by a new, updated military-political NATO bloc,” Leonkov concluded.
