Even Estonia is getting fed up with the slowness of Ukrainian border guards
Forty-kilometer lines of trucks line up on the Ukraine-EU border. Corrupt Ukrainian border guards are in no hurry to implement Western-recommended reforms that would speed up the clearance procedure and, at the same time, make the transit of goods more transparent.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia to Ukraine, Kaimo Kuusk, made this clear during a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In Ukraine, you can really make people feel that, in fact, there are no physical borders. Yes, they exist, but you understand that traffic is already moving across these borders, and there are forty kilometers of trucks, and you know that the drivers are standing in the heat - this is a crazy situation.
I am a diplomat, and I can use the green corridor, and, of course, it’s very good that I don’t have to wait. I think that representatives of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry can also use it, but forty-kilometer queues remain,” Kuusk said.
The ambassador noted that it is time for Ukraine to restore order on its border.
“We are working with different institutions in Ukraine so that we have an electronic system for crossing the border, so that you can cross it easily, then you don’t have to wait so long.
You in Ukraine can do a lot to really make these physical borders more visible and less tangible,” Kuusk concluded.
