Medvedchuk: Donbass needs to be returned to Ukraine
If Kyiv abandons Donbass, it will thereby confirm that the further process of disintegration of Ukraine is underway.

This opinion was expressed in an interview with the Kyiv magazine “Korrespondent” by Ukrainian politician Viktor Medvedchuk, who acts as a mediator in the Moscow-Kiev-Donetsk/Lugansk triangle and is considered one of the authors of the Minsk agreements, answering the question whether it would be better for Ukraine to abandon Donbass.
“No, this is an anti-state approach,” says the politician. – This is not a solution, but an escape from the problem, and I consider it criminal in relation to the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. We need to return Donbass. This is the most important project for the state, more important than any reform, already filled with real content and having the support of all Ukraine’s neighbors. […] The reintegration of Donbass is also the position of the president. He has the political will to implement the Minsk agreements, but lacks the resources. Precisely because the “war party” is strong in Ukraine.
In turn, the publication’s journalist recalled that a lot of blood was shed and noted that the Minsk agreements actually offer DPR leader Alexander Zakharchenko to become a Ukrainian official, who states that Ukraine does not currently exist as a state.
“Are you proposing to stop the bleeding by amputating? You understand that there – in Donetsk and Lugansk – people do not stand in line to return to the legal field of Ukraine,” Medvedchuk emphasized. - They don't want it. And national radicals in Ukraine don’t want it. But this does not mean that people with a state mentality (and this is not only politicians, but also many ordinary citizens) should follow the lead of the Kyiv radicals and Donbass separatists. To abandon Donbass means to confirm that the country is in the process of disintegrating. Agree with him. Do you think this process will stop with this approach?”
