Medvedev: Belarus will be an ally of Russia under any president
Russia will work with any popularly elected president of Belarus, just as it will accept any choice of the US people.
Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev stated this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Let's wait for the results. The decision is up to the people of the Republic of Belarus. It's the same as with Trump. Belarus is a special country for us, our ally. But returning to America, no matter who is elected, Russia, as a responsible international partner, as a permanent member of the Security Council, as a nuclear power, as a large economy, will work with any administration,” the politician noted.
At the same time, he emphasized that Russia has “special allied relations” with Belarus, which will not be affected by hostile comments or disputes between the parties.
“Well, about Belarus – these are, rather, the expectations of all kinds of forces unfriendly to us, the statements of various political scientists. Sometimes this is fueled by individual statements from managers, of course... We are engaged in integration. Yes, this process is not easy. Yes, we sometimes argue over gas and oil prices, and some kind of grievance arises. But overall it's a work process. The Belarusians and I are essentially one people. These are our very close friends. I hope everything will be okay,” Medvedev said.
Let us recall that when he was Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Medvedev was the only one among the Russian leadership who reacted to the passages of the Belarusian president. So he refuted Lukashenko’s words that Vladimir Putin is surrounded by “anti-Belarusian forces.” Earlier, Medvedev criticized the statements of the President of Belarus about the Great Patriotic War. Then Belarusian state channels allowed themselves to be openly rude to Medvedev.
