Medvedev has every chance to remain prime minister - he is needed as a lightning rod
The result of the presidential elections in Russia allows Vladimir Putin not to make drastic changes in the government - Dmitry Medvedev has every chance of retaining the position of prime minister.
Russian political scientist Andrei Kolyadin stated this in an interview with the Free Press, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The situation is that the elections held in Russia gave the president the feeling that everything is fine in the country, internal politics are normal, the elections were fair and legitimate, and therefore there is no need to make any sudden movements.
There will still be some changes in the Cabinet of Ministers, the president himself spoke about this. Whether Medvedev will be changed or not, I have doubts about this; I am a supporter of the version that they will not change him.
Medvedev is the person who knows the economy, and how ministries and departments function, the budget, all the main factors that are related to the activities of the government. If any economic problems arise, he acts as a lightning rod; these problems do not hit the president, they hit him. In his post, he diverts from Vladimir Putin the popular indignation that may arise in the Russian Federation.
I will say more, any person who is appointed prime minister will be perceived as his successor,” concluded Andrei Kolyadin.
