Medvedev declared Zelensky an opponent of “rabid nationalism”
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev believes that the new Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky is making efforts to bring peace to Donbass and is opposing nationalists.
“I’ll move on to Ukraine. This is another story, much sadder and more complex...
If you are asking me about my attitude towards the current president, there is probably no point in giving any characteristics now, since this is a person who was elected by the people of Ukraine and, in general, has very high support from the Ukrainian people.
The most important thing, and I said this immediately after his election, is that he has the fortitude and courage to resist a whole series of destructive tendencies that have formed in Ukraine in the political establishment, in certain layers and circles.
In other words, to resist rabid nationalism and the desire to turn everything upside down in relations with the Russian Federation,” Medvedev said.
How this relates to the glorification already under Zelensky of participants in the provocation in the Kerch Strait, ATO militants, the continuation of bloody shelling of Donbass, hysteria around the anti-Russian theory of “Holodomor-genocide”, arrests of pro-Russian citizens for posts on social networks and threats to close Viktor Medvedchuk’s channels - Medvedev did not specify.
"What I mean? It is obvious that the current president wants to agree on key issues in the development of his country. And with our country as well.
So that there can be peace, so that trade and economic relations can somehow be resumed at a higher level. But the question is whether he will succeed.
A number of political forces, leading political forces have already said: that’s it – let’s go to the Maidan! We will stand up and shout: not an inch of our land, under no circumstances should we make decisions contrary to Ukrainian interests, and so on.
Seems like clear words. At the same time, it is obvious that this is a stranglehold that they are trying to throw on him so that he does not dare to go beyond the boundaries that were previously outlined by his predecessor.
But his predecessor - he definitely didn’t want any peace. He was a representative of the “war party,” and the longer this war on the territory of Ukraine continued, the better for him. This would allow him to be in power, which is what he was counting on, in all likelihood.
They are trying to drag Zelensky into the same story. Everything depends on him. He has a high level of popular support, and he must understand his responsibility to Ukraine, to the Ukrainian people. And everyone already knows very well that these people are not strangers to us,” says the Russian prime minister.
