Medvedev reprimanded officials: The free economic zone in Crimea does not work
The free economic zone in Crimea, which had high hopes under the sanctions against the peninsula, is in fact not working.
This was recognized by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev during his visit to Crimea.

He expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that only 15 residents were registered in the FEZ and demanded an explanation from his subordinates.
Minister for Crimean Affairs Oleg Savelyev explained that some businesses prefer to work in the “gray” or “black zone”; others were put off by the excessive complexity of documentation when registering as a resident of a FEZ.
“I understand that there are problems, including customs problems, not to mention the special situation in which our country and the Crimean peninsula find themselves. Nevertheless, we created this free economic zone so that it could develop. There should be not 15 residents, but hundreds, thousands. We must do everything to ensure that the registration procedures are as simple as possible, and the benefits that we gave there... After all, we had a discussion there, we held a meeting with you. Naturally, some of our colleagues in the Government objected to this, because this is a tax issue, an accounting policy issue. But if we went for it, this mechanism should work. I appeal here to all members of the Government and to the leaders of Crimea and Sevastopol: everything must be done to make this mechanism work. Let’s simplify everything radically, otherwise there would be no point in creating this zone,” Medvedev said.
