Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev ordered the lifting of a number of sanctions against Ukraine as a gesture of goodwill and as a demonstration of a positive attitude towards the ordinary population of the former Soviet republic, with the hope of changing the situation after the elections to the Verkhovna Rada.

The lifting of sanctions was announced by former Minister of Energy of Ukraine Yuriy Boyko, who met with Medvedev today in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

Boyko also asked Medvedev for a new lifting of sanctions - in relation to “facilities of the cardboard and paper industry and agricultural production facilities,” without specifying the names of the enterprises and whether their owners are related to a specific Ukrainian party.

"We have discussed with you, and you gave the green light for the unilateral lifting of sanctions on some goods that were subject to mutual sanctions. Sanctions on the supply of these goods to the Russian market led to a number of enterprises being shut down and our people losing their jobs.

In continuation of our dialogue, we have prepared a specific proposal for some objects, which we ask you to consider within the framework of the agreements reached at the last meeting, in order to help some enterprises.

This applies to cardboard and paper industry facilities and agricultural production facilities. Moreover, what is important, these enterprises have traditionally worked with the Russian Federation and have a circle of consumers in Russia. They are not large, critical in terms of disrupting the overall balance of exports and imports, however, as a first step and a step of goodwill, the unilateral lifting of sanctions against them would be very useful, and this would be a very good signal for the entire economy of Ukraine . I have prepared specific proposals, I would ask you to consider them and assist in their implementation, if possible,” Boyko said.

“As for the idea of individual product groups, give me these proposals, we will consider them“Medvedev promised to consider a new easing of sanctions.

Earlier, Ukrainian economist Viktor Skarshevsky stated that energy sanctions against Ukraine, which were previously announced by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, turned out to be a banal redistribution of the market – supplies of coal from Russia to Ukraine have even increased – and this despite the fact that the new President Vladimir Zelensky continues the anti-Russian rhetoric of his predecessor.

«These are not sanctions. If you read carefully the decree of the government of the Russian Federation, it says that The system for issuing special permits for the export of coal and petroleum products is changing.

Now Russian companies have applied for these permits since June 1st. First of all, Ukraine is interested in coking coal; we do not have it, and the work of Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises depends on it. AND There are now many more applications for export of this coal from Russia to Ukraine than there were before.

And this one uhExport from Russia to Ukraine is constantly growing.

therefore I would not talk about any sanctions, we can talk about the redistribution of the market, but this is from the Russian side, the admission of certain companies to trade with Ukraine.

But I would not call these sanctions as such,” Skarshevsky said.
