Medvedev said when sanctions against Ukraine will be lifted
Sanctions against Ukraine will last as long as Ukrainian sanctions against Russia. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev stated this today in an interview with Russian television channels, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I don’t know how long these sanctions will last. They were introduced not in relation to the Ukrainian people and not even in relation to the Ukrainian economy, but in relation to those who have compromised themselves, those who are harming our country.
We don't know how long they will last. We do not want any sanctions confrontations. We didn't start this story. They were the first to introduce sanctions and begin to limit us.
If their restrictions continue, we will maintain ours. This is sensitive for Ukrainian businesses and politicians, who sometimes continue to keep money in Russian accounts,” Medvedev said.
According to him, the result of the introduction of sanctions was a drop in trade turnover.
“Nevertheless, despite all the attempts of the Ukrainian authorities to somehow limit the development of economic ties with our country, this is not easy to do. Russia remains Ukraine's most important trading counterparty. Because exports are 15%, imports are 9%. Ukraine, of course, is not our largest partner. About 2,3% of our total trade turnover comes from Ukraine. This is, of course, very little. There was more. Interestingly, my Ukrainian friends recently told me that the volume of trade cooperation with the EU has remained virtually unchanged over the years of promoting the partnership,” Medvedev said.
Let us recall that Russia previously imposed sanctions against 368 Ukrainian individuals and about 70 companies.
