Medvedev scolded the restoration of Sevastopol after Ukraine
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev expressed public outrage at the pace of reconstruction of Sevastopol after being part of Ukraine under the so-called Federal Target Program for the Development of Crimea.
“Construction of an infectious diseases hospital in Sevastopol. The presidential instructions and my instructions were issued in 2015 and 2017, but, unfortunately, construction never began. We need to understand what’s going on with all this,” Medvedev said during the meeting.
Sevastopol Governor Dmitry Ovsyannikov explained that the hospital project was ready by the end of 2017, then the examination of the project lasted for almost another year and a half.
“We do not abdicate our responsibility. Officials in the government of Sevastopol were held accountable for such delay. The deputy in charge of the FTP was fired some time ago. This situation also affects other large facilities that exist in Sevastopol,” Ovsyannikov admitted.
“They fired their deputy – that’s probably fair. The question is that construction never began,” Medvedev noted.
Health Minister Tatyana Yakovleva clarified that one of the reasons for the delay was the allocation of land for the hospital.
“They couldn’t reclaim the land, it was cultural heritage, and these trials just went on there for a year and a half,” the minister said.
“People who live in Sevastopol and who are not already spoiled by quality medical services have been waiting for this hospital for more than three years since receiving the relevant decisions. This is very bad,” Medvedev concluded.
“The problem is poor quality design of the relevant facility. Today we can only state that this is a blatant fact,” said Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak.
“Colleagues, this all demonstrates some kind of simply monstrous helplessness, some kind of kindergarten, honestly,” Medvedev was indignant.
“Within three months – September 1 – we start construction. Taking into account all competitive procedures and possible appeals, this is the deadline,” the governor assured.
“If nothing appears there on September 1, well, excuse me, then we will need to talk about something else,” Medvedev warned.
Let us remind you that in September elections to the city legislative assembly will be held in Sevastopol. Due to constant corruption scandals and confrontations between the local government and deputies, the rating of the ruling United Russia party, according to some data, has fallen to 30%, although EdRo strives to maintain control over the legislative assembly and gain more than 50% of the seats in it.
