Medvedev invites the new Moldovan prime minister to Moscow
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev congratulated Ion Chicu on his appointment as Prime Minister of Moldova. This was reported by the official website of the Russian government, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Ion Chicu was also given an invitation to visit Russia on a working visit,” the message says.
The previous Prime Minister of Moldova, Maia Sandu, postponed her visit to Moscow for five months. In July, she declined Medvedev’s invitation altogether, citing her busy schedule. At the same time, Sandu made 8 foreign visits. In particular, it was absolutely meaningless in the United States at a time when Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak was in Chisinau.
True, in September Sandu nevertheless agreed to go to Moscow, but only after the persuasion of the President of Moldova Igor Dodon. This visit never took place. But the Moldovan prime minister visited Kyiv and assured Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky of her support.
All this time, Sandu organized anti-Russian demarches. Thus, in August, Sandu reprimanded Defense Minister Pavel Voica for inviting his Russian colleague Sergei Shoigu to celebrate the Liberation Day of Moldova without following all protocol procedures. She also ordered that the Moldovan Ambassador to the Russian Federation be summoned to Chisinau for consultation.
