This was stated at a press conference in Kyiv by the head of the public organization “Crimean Tatar Resource Center”, member of the Mejlis Eskander Bariev.
“Indigenous peoples should be an instrument in the diplomatic struggle against the occupier, the aggressor in matters of de-occupation of Crimea,” the Mejlis member believes. “Because we are witnesses to the fact that the Russian Federation and the de facto authorities in Crimea continue today the repression of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people.”
In addition, he complains that the position of the Mejlis and Kurultai in the legal field of Ukraine is not regulated.
“We must consider the Mejlis and Kurultai not just as an official body against which the aggressor carries out repression and tries to present it to the whole world as extremist and terrorist structures, but at the legislative level it must be clearly stated that these are representative bodies of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people.”
