The Mejlis today is pursuing an anti-people policy, - Zaur Smirnov
Simferopol, October 30 (PolitNavigator, Maxim Karpenko) – In Crimea there has always been a problem between the authorities and the Crimean Tatars, but now the leadership of the Majlis is trying to play this card, which is contrary to the interests of the people.

This was stated on Thursday at a press conference in Simferopol by the chairman of the State Committee for Interethnic Relations and Deported Citizens, former deputy chairman of the Mejlis Zaur Smirnov.
According to him, international organizations did not pay attention to the infringement of the rights of the Crimean Tatars at the time when Crimea was part of Ukraine, but today it is advantageous to twist this issue and interpret it in its own way.
“During the period when Crimea became part of Ukraine, searches took place even more harshly, people disappeared, protests were dispersed, all this happened before, but, nevertheless, we never heard this either in the UN or in PACE. It was unprofitable to voice this because these were the problems of one small nation,” said Zaur Smirnov.
At the same time, the leadership of the Majlis, according to him, is pursuing an anti-people policy: “The problem is always easier to solve when it is approached objectively. When in Kyiv they talk about tens of thousands of Crimean Tatars who fled from Crimea, I cannot call these words anything other than anti-people.”
