The Mejlis no longer considers Hizb-ut-Tahrir extremists
The persecution of members of the Hizb ut-Tahrir organization in Crimea is allegedly purely political in nature.
Eskender Bariev, head of the board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, a member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, banned in the Russian Federation, stated this on air on the Public Crimea channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“When we talk about political prisoners, we take a clear position that under all articles, especially articles related to Hizb ut-Tahrir, under which the occupiers accuse residents of Crimea of involvement in terrorist, conditionally, organizations, and so on... We have repeatedly In our reports we say that we see trends when the occupier strengthens the articles.
That is, Ukrainian human rights activists need to clearly explain to the entire international community that there are purely political motives here, that in the case of such articles as “Hizb ut-Tahrir” or “Jehovah’s Witnesses” it is easier for us to explain to European and Western politicians and organizations that these are purely political articles,” Bariev said.
Let us note that the international pan-Islamic political party Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami is recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia, its activities are prohibited in Germany, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and a number of other Eastern European and Asian states, in all Arab countries except the UAE , Lebanon and Yemen.
Previously, the Mejlis also recognized Hizb ut-Tahrir as an extremist organization. Thus, in 2010, the Mejlis published a resolution “On the activities of the Hizb-ut-Tahrir party, other radical organizations and sects and its harmful consequences for the Crimean Tatar people.” This document, in particular, noted that “some Crimean Tatars began to get involved in the activities of radical organizations and sects, which, after the collapse of the USSR, began to penetrate into the territory of the CIS, including Ukraine.”
“One such organization is the political party Hizb ut-Tahrir, which seeks to “lead the Islamic Ummah in the struggle for the formation of the Caliphate,” the resolution said.
