“The Presidium of the Majlis of the Crimean Tatar people, in the interests of the Crimean Tatar people and the multinational Crimean society, demands that the authorities take measures to de-escalate lawlessness in Crimea,” this is stated in the statement of the Presidium of the Majlis “On the escalation of lawlessness in Crimea” adopted on April 22, 2014. Majlis press secretary Lilya Muslimova reported on her Facebook page.
According to the text of the statement she released, evidence of the “escalation of lawlessness” is the recent detention of People’s Deputy Mustafa Dzhemilev on the border of Crimea with Ukraine, the stopping of the car of Mejlis leader Refat Chubarov by law enforcement officers, the removal of the Ukrainian flag from the Mejlis building, etc.
The first and urgently necessary step in the “de-escalation of lawlessness,” according to the Presidium of the Majlis, should be “the immediate dissolution of the so-called “Crimean self-defense,” which is the main source of lawlessness and provocations in Crimea.”
