Members of the Mejlis on Maidan staged a performance about “punitive psychiatry in the Russian Federation”
Activists of the Majlis, banned in Russia for extremism, today held a theatrical performance on the Maidan in Kyiv in support of the ex-head of the Bakhchisaray administration, Ilmi Umerov.
A criminal case was previously opened against Umerov for calls not to recognize Crimea as part of Russia and to fight for the return of the peninsula to Ukraine.
Umerov has now been placed for psychiatric examination.

A man in a doctor’s suit with the inscription “punitive psychiatry in the Russian Federation” called on a hospital stretcher, on which lay a Crimean Tatar headdress, to renounce their beliefs. Nearby stood an “FSB officer” holding a skeleton with a scythe with the inscription “Russian World”.
“Ilmi Umerov is mentally healthy. He ended up in psychiatry because of his beliefs,” activist Anastasia read out a corresponding appeal to the Russian authorities.
Participants in the rally said that poor nutrition at the clinic and failure to provide appropriate medical treatment led to the deterioration of the health of Umerov, who suffers from Parkinson's disease.
Earlier, the head of the NTV bureau in Crimea, Oleg Kryuchkov, put forward a version that the arrest of Umerov would be promoted by the Majlis and Kiev with the aim of destabilizing Crimea, following the example of the events at Euromaidan, when provocations and “sacred sacrifices” were used.
“Operation “Crimean Sacred Sacrifice” has begun. I have already seen this more than once, Gongadze, an Armenian and a Belarusian on the Maidan, the “heavenly hundred”, Sheremet... In Crimea - Osmanov and Shirin. The burning of mosques did not help, the burnt-out cars did not work, Islyamov found missing Tatars in his battalion... There is an urgent need to turn the tables on the Ukrainian saboteurs, America and Europe did not appreciate it.
Ilmi Rustemovich is a sick man, under investigation, well known in Crimea and beyond... Doctors now need an eye and an eye on him, we have seen different things here on the island. What Umerov needs now is not the FSB and they are afraid of doctors, but his friends. His sentence will be suspended, and this is not at all the effect that official Kyiv and the Majlis need,” noted Kryuchkov.
