Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatars Nariman Jelal told the Ukrainian service of Radio Liberty.
According to him, during negotiations with the authorities, the Mejlis members managed to convince them of the impossibility of canceling the action.
“We tried to explain that people would still come. And if there is a ban, people will come there with a certain mindset. This will inflame the situation even more, and nothing good will happen to either the Crimean Tatars or the authorities,” Jelal noted.
He also added that the rally will take place according to the Mejlis scenario, but with concessions to the authorities.
“It will be under national flags, with the national anthem. There will be neither a Ukrainian nor a Russian flag,” noted the deputy chairman of the Mejlis.
For its part, the Mejlis put forward a demand to prohibit representatives of the Crimean self-defense from being in the center of Simferopol at this time in order to prevent provocations and conflict situations.
