“On May 18, we are starting an extensive program, which involves sounding a sound signal with a minute of silence at 12 o’clock throughout Ukraine, including Crimea, in memory of the victims of the genocide of the Crimean Tatar people. In Crimea, we called on people to leave their houses and apartments and hold a prayer service on the streets and at the entrances of these houses,” he said.
“This act of remembrance should unite the mainland and Crimea,” Emine Dzheppar, deputy head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Information, said in a blog post.
In turn, the head of the Mejlis, Refat Chubarov, said that this year “the day of Ukrainian embroidery” falls on May 18. He called for remembering the anniversary of the expulsion from Crimea at the beginning of all events.
