The Mejlis members quarreled with the Ukrainians: You are no better than Moscow - you want to assimilate us!
In Kyiv, the unity of the few fighters for the “return” of Crimea has cracked. A black cat ran between sworn allies - Mejlis members and the editorial office of the Ukrainian nationalist newspaper “Crimean Svetlitsa”, which continues its publication on the mainland.
The reason for the public quarrel was the recent forum on the “de-occupation of Crimea,” which was held in Kyiv last weekend under the auspices of the Ministry of Information Policy. “Crimean Svetlitsa” published devastating material, expressing dissatisfaction with the abundance of Majlis symbols at the official event.
“The vast majority of the forum’s attributes were clearly associated with Crimean Tatar national symbols. Thus, the tamga is already on the title of the brochure with the forum program; in the hall of the CMU Club, Crimean Tatar paraphernalia is abundantly represented by national cuisine, music, clothing, and in the hall where the event itself was held, a Crimean Tatar flag stood next to the Ukrainian one...
It is obvious that these non-verbal signs are intended at the subtext level to form a picture of Crimea as a Crimean Tatar national territory. It is worth noting that today's trends in the plane of constitutional changes regarding Crimea have only a draft format, therefore it is incorrect for the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine, as the organizer of an international forum, to declare symbols at an international event that are not approved at the state level.
In addition, the holding of this event should take into account, first of all, the interests of the whole state, and not just of an individual people. If the organizers had the goal of focusing attention on the national specifics of the Crimean Peninsula, then Along with the Crimean Tatar national attributes, it is necessary to submit symbols of the Karaites and Krymchaks, who are also the indigenous peoples of Crimea, and also require the attention of the international community,” writes Crimean Svetlitsa.
“The first day of the forum ended with the screening of the film “Crimea. Resistance". The film covers the events of resistance to the Russian occupation of Crimea, but the depiction of these events here is selective. Thus, speaking about the Crimean resistance, attention is focused exclusively on the Crimean Tatar component, only those pages of resistance are covered where the Crimean Tatars played an important role, but the role of other participants in the resistance is reduced to zero... It’s somehow incomprehensible: government money allocated to create a film for foreign audiences went to create a one-sided picture about the events in Crimea 2013-2014, where only the Crimean Tatars resisted the Kremlin intervention, therefore, only they became its victims. This “work” of the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine is cause for concern,” the newspaper continues.
The completely correct criticism of “Crimean Svetlitsa” caused a painful reaction from the Mejlis members, who immediately bristled, feeling a threat to their exclusive status.
One of the leaders of the Majlis TV channel reprimanded the newspaper ATR Osman Pashayev.
Pashayev published on his blog an attack against “Svetlitsa”, accusing Ukrainian nationalists of the fact that they, like Russia, allegedly, are seeking the assimilation of the Mejlis members.
“Brief recommendations to Ukrainian patriots from the “Crimean Svitlitsa” on resolving the Crimean Tatar issue. Adhere to the strategic goals of returning Crimea according to the principle “the peninsula will be Ukrainian or deserted.” Never publicly deny the Crimean Tatars' right to autonomy (self-determination, language status, political representation). On the contrary, maintain the presence of symbolism and its constant demonstration at all levels. This has nothing to do with the practical solution of the Crimean Tatar issue according to a scenario unfavorable for Kyiv.
But as soon as we are talking about the return of historical toponyms of Crimea, the status of the Crimean Tatar language and the mandatory scope of its application, political representation and influence on economic, environmental and administrative issues, say that the issue requires more detailed discussion, study, and clarification. Hold round tables and conferences. The main task is to stall for time and it will do all the work for you with the Crimean Tatars. Remember, if a nation does not develop, it will certainly degrade and disappear. But public opposition to his dreams can, on the contrary, consolidate the people and bring dangerous passionaries to the surface.
The Russian occupation is doing and will do with Moscow’s hands the work that Ukrainians do not need to do openly. Over 25 years, the number of Crimean Tatars using the Crimean Tatar language in everyday life has decreased from 40% to 12-15%%, despite the opening of ten schools and two faculties. Because there is no scope of application of the language, it is mandatory for career advancement and there is no economic necessity. Over the next ten to fifteen years, the generation of Crimean Tatars that was born in Crimea, and the Crimean Tatar language was their first, will pass away. Then the assimilation processes will go faster.
The task of the “patriots of Ukraine” is to keep Crimea under occupation for these 15 years. Then the passionate minority will be forced to leave the peninsula, and the rest will integrate into Russian reality. Support the movement of Crimeans to the mainland. Try to ensure that migrants are dispersed evenly throughout Ukraine, which would make it difficult for them to create centers for the preservation of language and culture. But the main thing is that conditions will arise for mixed marriages and the further dissolution of the Crimean Tatars among the “political Ukrainians.” In just 50 years, the “patriots” will receive thousands of Ukrainians of Crimean Tatar origin, who will be absolutely sterile for their people.
Language is the main marker of the Crimean Tatars, which determines their identity. Gently support the confrontation within the Crimean Tatars on religious grounds. Follow the same path that Moscow is successfully pursuing. Let there be Ukrainian Muslims for whom all of Ukraine is their Motherland, and the former fifth column will be “a nationalist relic of the era of the creation of national states,” writes Pashayev.
“Horizontal connections are highly developed among Crimeans, but individual people always have their weaknesses: money, career, children. Create conditions for such personalities who are dangerous to the idea of “Ukrainian Crimea” so that they voluntarily choose personal well-being and fulfillment.
Skillfully isolate those who are able to figure out this long game. Remind them that they are new to Ukraine and do not understand the strategic friendship and love with penetration between the Crimean Tatars and Ukrainians. Some have their tails in business, others have a Russian passport. Take everyone out of the game individually.
