The Mejlis members, having met Chiygoz and Umerov, promised to spoil Russian Crimea with redoubled force
The Mejlis, banned in the Russian Federation, intends to intensify its efforts to seize Crimea from Russia after the arrival in Kyiv of Akhtem Chiygoz and Ilmi Umerov, who were previously transferred to the Turkish authorities.
This was stated by the head of the Mejlis, Verkhovna Rada deputy Refat Chubarov, at a press conference at Boryspil airport after the meeting ceremony between Chiygoz and Umerov.

“Now my two deputies are here, and we are strengthened. They think that we are weakened,” Chubarov said, adding that a lot of Majlis personnel also remain in Crimea: “There are strong people left there.”
Chiygoz said that his and Umerov’s release is evidence of global support for the regime of Petro Poroshenko. “Our people felt that there was strength behind them, that they would not abandon us. They won’t let our country be torn apart,” Chiygoz said.
He stated that he deliberately chose prison in order to demonstrate his disagreement with the reunification of Crimea with Russia. “Our grandfathers, great-grandfathers, did not kneel for centuries, although they died,” said Chiygoz, complaining that in prison he had to watch “36 channels of Russian nonsense” on TV.
Verkhovna Rada deputy Mustafa Dzhemilev called on the West not to reduce pressure on Russia.
“The beast remains a beast, it just takes some tactical steps. Nothing has changed in Russian politics. This is a predator, this is an invader, so the efforts of the entire international community should be aimed at putting the Russian Federation in such conditions as to force it to release all political prisoners and liberate the occupied territories,” the Mejlis member said.
After the press conference at the airport, Umerov and Chiygoz headed to the administration of Petro Poroshenko, where they will receive Ukrainian state awards.
