Members of the Mejlis put forward an ultimatum to Poroshenko, threatening the Crimean Tatar Maidan
If Crimea is not made a “Crimean Tatar national-territorial autonomy” by May 18, then mass protests of Crimean Tatars will begin in Kyiv.
Businessman Lenur Islyamov, who served as Deputy Prime Minister of Crimea and later headed the blockade of the peninsula, stated this on air on the Skrypin Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Islyamov claims that the President of Ukraine does not fulfill many of his promises, but the people are still waiting.
“I wouldn’t say they’re not doing anything. They do it, but not enough. The fact that the constitutional reform has not yet been adopted is a very big mistake, because the Crimean Tatars are holding on, so you understand, today only because they believe that mainland Ukraine has changed. That the attitude towards the Crimean Tatars has already changed... The guarantor has many different words that he has not fulfilled, but I do not want to act as his judge now.
We have until May 18th. Left just a little bit. Consider that all the people are waiting now. We are waiting until May 18 and, believe me, neither Chubarov nor Dzhemilev will stop the people from making many statements and doing many things, because the people are like a spring, they hold on and hold on very dignified,” Islyamov said.
In response to TV presenter Roman Skrypin’s clarifying question about what actions will be taken if the president does not fulfill his promise and deceives the Mejlis members, Islyamov replied: “If this happens, then, believe me, near the Verkhovna Rada there will not be such a tent city as “MihoMaidan” was.”
