Former deputy head of the Mejlis, banned for extremism, Ilmi Umerov received two years in prison to be served in a penal colony for publicly calling for the secession of Crimea from Russia.
The corresponding decision was made today by a court in Simferopol, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

Umerov was accused of calls for separatism voiced on Ukrainian TV. The Simferopol District Court issued a verdict, banning him from engaging in public activities for two years.
It is noteworthy that the sentence turned out to be harsher than the prosecutor’s office initially demanded for Umerov - it was expected that he would receive a suspended sentence.
Journalist Anatoly Shariy believes that this outcome of the trial is evidence of the low qualifications of lawyer Mark Feigin, who defended Umerov.
"So. Umerov was given more than the prosecutor's office asked for. Congratulations to the fools who hire Feigin as their lawyer. Another victory,” Shariy commented on his blog.
It is interesting that in Kyiv, the Deputy Minister of Information Policy of Ukraine, Emine Dzhapparova, who is close to the Majlis, is already organizing an emergency press conference dedicated to the verdict against Umerov.
