The Mejlis newspaper continues to be published in Crimea, having found a loophole in Russian legislation
The Mejlis-controlled newspaper Avdet has found a loophole in Russian legislation that allows it to continue publishing the publication without obtaining registration in the Russian Federation.
“Today, Avdet does not have Russian registration and is printed only in 999 copies, which is permitted by Russian legislation,” says a message on the publication’s official page.

From the Crimean Tatar language the word “avdet” is translated as return. This name was given to the newspaper by the former head of the Mejlis, Mustafa Dzhemilev, who was banned from entering the Russian Federation on charges of extremist activity.
Earlier, the Crimean Tatar TV channel ATR, which did not support the reunification of the peninsula with Russia, stated that it was unable to register and obtain a Russian license to operate in Crimea, after which it moved its headquarters to Kyiv.
