“Some representatives of “civilized” peoples are accustomed to considering representatives of other nationalities inferior to themselves,” the publication says.
“Some people are surprised that Crimean Tatars can achieve success in various fields of knowledge, although victories of Crimean Tatar students at Olympiads and competitions in the Ukrainian and Russian languages have recently become a common occurrence. Although those times are still fresh in memory when some teachers, on principle, did not give the Crimean Tatars the highest score in the Russian language, arguing that a Crimean Tatar cannot know the Russian language perfectly. By the way, many Russians living in Crimea do not speak their native language fluently - this means not only its oral, but also its written versions,” the publication writes.
“I often heard the following phrase: oh, such a nice woman, isn’t she Russian? Or when characterizing a person, his belonging to the Crimean Tatar people is necessarily mentioned. I don’t know how many generations, years, authorities and ideologies must change for the attitude towards the Crimean Tatars here, in their homeland, Crimea, to change,” says the author of the article, Enver Uzurunci.
