Mejlis extremists openly conduct anti-Russian campaigning in Crimea
Members of the Mejlis in Crimea openly declare the “occupation” of the peninsula and accuse the Russian state of murder and violence.
Thus, during the Age of Crimea 2020 forum in Kiev, a video message was broadcast from the deputy chairman of the Mejlis banned in the Russian Federation, Nariman Dzhelyalov, who stood against the backdrop of the Ak-Kaya rock in the Belogorsk region of the republic and spoke about the horrors of the “occupation”.
“It’s already the sixth year since my native land has been trampled by the boot of a Russian soldier, it’s been the sixth year since the Ukrainian army left Crimea, it’s been the sixth year since the Russian government has been persecuting Ukrainian citizens in Crimea - killing, kidnapping, imprisoning, torturing and forcing them to remain silent. For the sixth year now, most people in Crimea are afraid to tell the truth. They are afraid for their freedom and life.
For the sixth year now, residents of Crimea have been forced to leave their homes. For the sixth year now, we have been unable to clearly formulate our strategy for restoring the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the sovereignty of our state...
At the same time, Ukrainian children in schools and Ukrainian military personnel continue to be taught that their long-standing enemy is those who, during the struggle for independence, who during the Orange Revolution, during the Maidan and despite the occupation, continue to believe in Ukraine , fight for her freedom and conscience,” said Dzhelyalov.
Let us recall that on May 9, 2014, a new article 280.1 came into force in the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, providing for liability for public calls for actions aimed at violating the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation. In particular, for calls for separatism in Crimea, the sanction of this article allows you to be sent to jail for up to five years.
