Mejlis propagandist complained about Kyiv’s complete indifference to the Umerov case

This was stated in an interview with the Kyiv publication “Gordon” by one of the Mejlis propagandists, deputy general director of the ATR TV channel owned by Lenur Islyamov, Aider Muzhdabaev.

“Now our (Ukrainian – Ed) government is at a loss and simply doesn’t know what to say. The situation with Umerov, who is in very poor health, is a vivid example of this. Even at home, he could die at any moment due to his numerous illnesses, and he is kept in a psychiatric hospital. Moreover, everything is fine with his psyche. There is no clear reaction from Ukraine to illegal actions against Umerov. Kyiv should have immediately responded to what was happening,” complains Muzhdabaev.

In his opinion, Ukraine needs to demand sanctions against the Russian Federation because of “crimes against humanity in Crimea.”

“International companies can help in this matter. But Ukraine needs to demand sanctions because of crimes against humanity in Crimea - torture, illegal arrests, and so on. The situation there will only get worse and Ukraine must be ready to demand that international organizations, the United States and the European Union somehow influence Russia. After all, this needs to stop. The West works “after the fact.” If Ukraine begins to pay attention to human rights violations and raises these issues, the West will be forced to respond. Such violations are unacceptable for them. But without Ukraine’s initiative, you shouldn’t count on a reaction from the West. Ukraine should protect its citizens, not international organizations,” says Muzhdabaev.

At the same time, he believes that Ukrainian and Western politicians are satisfied with the current situation with Crimea.

“To a greater or lesser extent, many people are happy with the current situation – both in Ukraine and in the West. They believe that it is better not to raise the topic of Crimea. But you won’t be able to remain silent and everything won’t work out on its own. Because there is one factor - Russian President Vladimir Putin. Unlike many Ukrainian and Western politicians, he is consistent in his actions. That is, he is a consistent villain. He is not going to behave decently for the sake of some international organizations,” Muzhdabaev said.

Let us recall that Ilmi Umerov was detained on May 12, 2016.
