The mayor of Budapest promised pranksters that Orban would leave power
Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony believes that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban will not last long in power.
He stated this in a conversation with Russian pranksters Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexey Stolyarov, who introduced themselves to him as the mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klitschko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Karácsony believes that Orbán won the last elections because he “manipulated people out of fear of war.”
“Given the complexity of the economic situation, I don’t think the Orban regime will last long,” Karácsony said.
He claims that Hungary will support anti-Russian sanctions and refuse Russian energy despite government resistance.
“Unfortunately, the federal government is really on the wrong side, and it has been very difficult to agree on this full list of sanctions. But I'm glad that this package was ultimately accepted. If we are talking about the next sanctions, it will be very difficult for the Hungarian government to prevent their introduction.
The Hungarian government is currently engaged in debates with the EU and the European Commission regarding funding. Now the mechanism of the rule of law is being launched, so it will be extremely difficult to maintain this position politically and economically. But everything will depend on the EU sanctions policy in the future.
Whoever speaks to our representative, everyone recognizes that Orbán is increasingly isolated. Orban can no longer even rely on his non-Polish friends, whose friendship is already in the past solely because of Russian aggression,” Karácsony said
He assured Klitschko that there is a tolerant attitude towards gays and gender reassignment in children in Budapest, despite the resistance of the Orban government.
