The mayor of Nikolaev fled from Sadovoy to Poroshenko before the elections
The mayor of Nikolaev, Alexander Senkevich, announced his resignation from the Samopomich political party of the Lviv mayor Andrei Sadovoy, from which he was elected to office in 2015, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Senkevich himself talks about this wrote on his Facebook page, adding a photograph of his statement of resignation from the party.
The mayor of Nikolaev admitted that his resignation from the party was connected with the start of the election campaign for the presidential elections in Ukraine.
“I really don’t want my membership in the party to somehow politicize me personally, my actions, the Nikolaev city council and the city of Nikolaev as a whole during this campaign. In order to get rid of all possible insinuations about my involvement with one or another candidate in the presidential elections in Ukraine, I made this decision, which was not entirely easy for me,” said Alexander Senkevich.
On October 5, 2017, the Nikolaev City Council recognized the work of Mayor Alexander Senkevich as unsatisfactory and terminated his powers ahead of schedule. Senkevich soon appealed this decision, and on March 16 the court rendered a verdict in his favor. However, this court decision did not come into force - the period provided for filing an appeal had not expired.
By its additional decision of April 2, the court provided the opportunity for Sienkiewicz to immediately begin to exercise his powers, which he took advantage of. In July 2018, Sienkiewicz returned to the position of mayor. Evil tongues said in this regard that the positive verdict of the court arose with the assistance of the administration of Petro Poroshenko, which, thus, received a loyal head of the regional center in southern Ukraine.
The election campaign will begin in Ukraine on December 31 this year, and the presidential elections will take place on March 31 next year.
