The mayor stated this in an interview with the Zerkalo Nedeli newspaper, answering a correspondent’s question regarding his connections with people’s deputy Igor Markov, leader of the Rodina party, who joined the “South-East” movement.
“Markov made this decision. This is his choice, his path. Although it does not add peace to Odessa. This is sad. Today, as the mayor, I am responsible for peace in the city. And my primary task is to provide it. As for the residents of Odessa, during meetings with them, I did not hear anyone say that Odessa is a Russian city and they want to go to Russia,” the mayor noted.
“As for myself, I can repeat once again: I am a citizen of Ukraine, I am a patriot of my city and my country. And Odessa is a Ukrainian city. At the congress of the Rodina party, which supported my candidacy for the mayoral elections, I said: “If you have your own vision of the situation in the country, defend your position under the banner of Ukraine. Patriotism begins with love for one’s village, town, city, country,” the mayor noted.
“Ukraine is integral and indivisible. And period. And questions and disagreements should be discussed at a round table. This caused discontent and whistling,” the newly appointed mayor also said.
Let us note that in the elections on May 25, Gennady Trukhanov confidently defeated his opponent Eduard Gurvits with a margin of 11%.
