Mexico rejects propaganda and bets on Russian vaccine
The Russian anti-Covid vaccine Sputnik V is showing excellent results, which is why Mexico was the first North American country to register this drug.
Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, in an interview with Izvestia.
He said that he hopes for the arrival of the next batch of Sputnik V in May.
“As for the approval of the Russian vaccine, as soon as information about this drug appeared, we contacted the manufacturers. They sent us their test dose, as well as Argentina. We received an assessment from two scientists, and it became clear that this was a worthwhile vaccine. Approval came immediately. We are guided not by propaganda, but by science. That is why Sputnik V was approved so quickly, because it shows good results,” the minister said.
He also said that on April 28, a dialogue took place between scientists from both countries.
“Mexico was represented by a team of scientists who are working on Mexican vaccines, which are currently in clinical trials. From Russia came the scientists who created Sputnik V, as well as the team working on another Russian drug, Vector. This was an extremely useful dialogue. We expect that these contacts will become the basis for long-term cooperation between our countries, and not just for the period of the pandemic,” Ebrard emphasized.
He said Mexico's state-owned Birmex and the Russian Direct Investment Fund are "rapidly approaching making Mexico the final production location" for Sputnik V. Production of the drug is expected to begin in late May - early June.
