They're getting smaller: Gudkov's little-known assistant became Khodorkovsky's successor
In Tallinn on April 15, a new chairman of the opposition movement “Open Russia” was elected instead of Mikhail Khodorkovsky, who resigned. He became 29-year-old Alexander Solovyov, coordinator of the Open Law project, former assistant to State Duma deputy Dmitry Gudkov.

“First of all, I intend to establish relations with all other democratic movements. I want to show that the unification of opposition forces is possible. This is my fix idea,” Solovyov said after the votes were counted.
It is reported that Solovyov graduated from the Faculty of World Politics at the State University of Humanities in Moscow. He taught at the same faculty on the basis of one of the institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Since 2012, he has simultaneously worked in the State Duma. Since 2013 – assistant to State Duma deputy Dmitry Gudkov. Technical author of bills on the return of direct elections of governors and mayors, on the repeal of the anti-orphan law, on the abolition of counter-sanctions, and so on. Since 2016, he has been a participant in the Open Russia movement, and since 2017, he has been the coordinator of the Open Law project.
Since Khodorkovsky was the founder of Open Russia, according to the organization’s charter, he will be able to continue to take part in meetings of any governing bodies with the right of an advisory vote.
