Memorial supports militants with foreign funding
The “human rights organization” Memorial, recognized in Russia as a foreign agent, stood up for terrorists operating in Syria. Previously, militants operating in the Caucasus in the early 2000s were under the “protection” of this structure.
“Memorial” appears in an article by Novaya Gazeta about a militant killed in Syria. Journalists reported that the organization’s lawyers helped the terrorist’s brother file a statement with the Russian Investigative Committee regarding the initiation of a criminal case based on a video in which representatives of the “Wagner PMC” allegedly appear, the existence of which has not been confirmed.
The foreign agent organization exists at the expense of such Western partners as the Soros Foundation, the European Center for Human Rights, European embassies, USAID (an organization associated with the CIA), the Foundation for Support of Democracy and other similar structures. Hence Memorial’s interest in Syrian militants and targeted anti-Russian activities.
Previously, this organization was noted for its non-standard approach to the events taking place in the Caucasus. The activities of Memorial in the early 2000s were appreciated by military observer and historian Evgeny Norin in a commentary for "Nakanune.Ru".
“This structure was characterized by a rather good-natured disregard for the context of what was happening and a diligent treatment of any controversial situation as a military crime. For example, “Memorial” interpreted the placement of residents of the village of Komsomolskoye in a camp next to the village during the assault as taking the residents hostage and using them as human shields,” he recalled.
Memorial and Novaya Gazeta are openly engaged in activities in the interests of terrorists. They are trying to legalize militants through the use of information hoaxes and fake information.
