“They dumped me like a sucker,” a scandal at Yanukovych’s press conference
UNIAN correspondent in Moscow Roman Tsymbalyuk caused another scandal at a press conference of the former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
At first he interrupted the presenter and asked for the floor, and when he received it, he began to provoke.
“You speak just like Putin. Are you in captivity here by any chance? On what legal basis are you in the Russian Federation? Did you know when you signed an agreement with the opposition on February 21 that on the 20th Putin gave the order to occupy Crimea?” – said Tsymbalyuk.
The wording aroused the indignation of Russian journalists, and Tsymbalyuk entered into a skirmish with them.
“I move freely throughout Russia. I am not in any Interpol databases and can travel to any country in the world. I don't have any problems. I have no information about any teams in Crimea. I have information, which is presented by my lawyers in the form of evidence, about how these events took place,” Yanukovych said.
He complained that he was in vain to trust the ambassadors of European states, who persuaded him to come to an agreement with the Maidan.
“I’ll tell you why Russia didn’t sign that agreement. I talked to Lukin (Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, - ed.) both the 20th and 21st. Unfortunately, he was right when he told me: do you really believe that these agreements will not be fulfilled? I said: I want to believe that the foreign ministers of European states will not discredit themselves. Unfortunately, I was wrong. I was deceived, betrayed, or, as advanced Ukrainian politicians say, thrown out like a sucker,” Yanukovych said.
He said that he had been complaining to the European guarantors of that agreement for five years, but had not received any response.
