This was stated by Sevastopol Governor Sergei Menyailo, commenting on the results of the NATO summit in Warsaw.
“As the events of the last decade have shown, only the Russian Black Sea Fleet was able to fully ensure both the security of the peninsula and the protection of the southern sea borders of the CIS, as well as control over the situation in the Mediterranean Sea. As for NATO, this military bloc, in my deep conviction, has long outlived its usefulness. It does not solve the problems of the allies, but rather drags them into new conflicts,” Menyailo said.
He believes that the North Atlantic Alliance should think about finding other forms of ensuring regional and global security.
“Thanks to the efforts of Russia and, above all, the Black Sea Fleet, stability in the region has been achieved. This was reflected, among other things, in the emerging settlement of the Syrian crisis. If the United States and NATO only provoked regional conflicts, then Russia tried to localize, resolve and prevent them,” Menyailo said.
In his opinion, Russia played a stabilizing role during the events in Crimea in February-March 2014.
“Otherwise, I am simply convinced of this, the peninsula would have faced large-scale bloodshed during the inevitable civil war after the coup in Ukraine,” the governor said.
