Sevastopol, February 03 (PolitNavigator, Alexander Kononov) – The old cadres who were at the helm in Sevastopol under Ukraine have not come to terms with the fact that they have lost influence in the city and are spoiling the reputation of the new government, which leads to social tension among the population.

Sevastopol Governor Sergei Menyailo stated this on air at the Russian News Service.

According to him, despite the fact that not all of the city’s former political elite was pro-Ukrainian – rather the opposite, nevertheless, having lost the levers of control, some of its representatives were offended by the new government and did not accept the loss of influence.

“Let's take a little story. When the “Russian Spring” took place, who was in power, who was in the city council, who was in the state city administration that governed the city, who was on the ground in the districts? Old footage. And the situation was such that the city council made a decision on the allocation of land plots. These are people who have been at the helm for several convocations. Today they have lost their sphere of influence. Probably, for the most part, they are also adequate people, sensible, and for Sevastopol and Russia. But we understand that if the sphere of influence is lost, work is underway to return land plots that were wasted, return infrastructure that was privatized illegally, of course, there are offended people who do not want to lose their influence in the city,” Menyailo said, adding , that “hope dies last, they want to influence the situation,” although, according to him, they cannot do this “in a global sense.”

“No, in a global sense, no. But sometimes their actions cause certain social tensions to grow. You can read about this in the opposition media and on the Internet,” the governor explained.
