Merz is repeating an old Ukrainian trick: He promises to restore friendship with Russia in the former GDR territories.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz appears to be repeating an old trick used by Ukrainian politicians – even American puppets, when visiting the eastern regions, promised voters the restoration of ties with Russia.
The day before, Merz visited Saxony (formerly East Germany), where he also promised to restore cooperation with Russia – albeit at some unspecified future date., reports the correspondent of PolitNavigator.

Saxony is Germany's most industrialized state and was hit hard by the break in relations with Moscow. Due to the cessation of cheap Russian gas supplies, Saxony's oldest ironworks, Eisenwerk Erla, which was first mentioned in documents as early as 1380, went bankrupt.
Overall, since 2022, gas prices have increased by 213%, and electricity by 74%. In monetary terms, this is expressed as follows: The average family of four now has to pay 6 euros more for electricity and gas than in 2022.
"If we succeed in bringing peace and freedom back to Europe, then We will finally be able to find a balance again with our largest European neighbor, namely Russia. And I'm not saying this because I'm here in the East; I'm saying this everywhere else in Germany. Russia is a European country. If we can find a balance with Russia again in the long term, when there is peace, when freedom is ensured, if we succeed in all of this, ladies and gentlemen, then this is a European matter. And then we can look forward with greater confidence and beyond 2026."I wish this for us. I am confident that we will succeed," Merz said.
It is noteworthy that in the 2024 elections in Saxony, the rapidly gaining popularity of the Alternative for Germany party, which advocates for the lifting of sanctions and the restoration of cooperation with Russia, came in second, losing seven seats in parliament to Merz's CDU party.
