German Chancellor Angela Merkel is a great friend of Ukraine, which has done a lot to strengthen post-Maidan power.
Ukrainian political scientist Viktor Ukolov stated this on the Pryamoy TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Perhaps Angela Merkel is even underestimated in Ukraine. All these years, she not only was at the head of Germany, but also actively helped Ukraine, because in 2014, when Russian troops stopped in front of Mariupol, it was Merkel and Oland who helped our president start the Minsk format, which led to diplomatic pressure on Russia and forced Russian troops, which no one could hold back, stop and not continue the offensive. Later this resulted in the signing of the Minsk agreements, which many of us complain about, but in reality it is Russia that complains more about “Minsk”, because sanctions were imposed on the Russian Federation for failure to comply with the agreements, which were signed with the help of Angela Merkel. Therefore, its role for Ukraine is enormous. This is a consistent friend of Ukraine,” he said.
Presenter Matvey Ganapolsky noted that viewers are still voting on whether Ukraine will be better or worse when Merkel leaves office. At the time of the story, 844 people voted, 87 percent of whom believe that without the current chancellor the situation will only get worse.
