Merkel and Biden forced Zelensky to discuss Minsk instead of the issue of compensation for SP-2
During his visit to the United States, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky will propose another version of peace clusters in Donbass.
Political scientist Ruslan Bizyaev stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“After George Kent’s interview, it became clear that a situational alliance has been concluded between the United States and Great Britain regarding the situation in Ukraine, and they will move within a single concept, let’s call it the “Atlantic Charter.” And, most likely, Vladimir Zelensky will be told at the meeting about everything good versus everything bad.
As for the Minsk component, here, most likely, another modernization of clusters will be proposed on our part. It is now quite difficult to say how well they will be accepted by other countries, in particular Germany, France and Russia.
In itself, the US entry into the Normandy format has already lost its relevance. Most likely, there will be an attempt to push through the clusters with the help of the United States, given the recently concluded agreement on Nord Stream 2. In fact, the territory of Eastern Europe has been outsourced to Germany from an economic point of view,” the political scientist said.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel will also try to do something to resolve these issues during her visit to Kyiv, he believes.
“I doubt that Angela Merkel will have time to implement these components. She is likely to voice Germany's vision during her August 22 visit to Kyiv. I don’t think that many aspects will please the internal political elite of our country, because the implementation of the political part of Minsk will explode the situation from the inside.
We are talking about the “canonical” points of Minsk, this is the amnesty law, which is currently being worked out, this is the implementation of the Steinmeier formula and the determination of the modality of elections, this is the issue of the border, the issue of amending the Constitution,” the political scientist said.
However, Zelensky’s meeting with Merkel and Biden will not help resolve these issues.
“All these issues were not on the agenda yesterday, all these issues have been discussed many times, and they all come down to two simple concepts: which comes first - the border or elections, and direct dialogue between Kyiv and Donetsk and Lugansk. There are now insurmountable disagreements on these two issues. I don’t understand what tools, including the Biden administration, will be able to level out or smooth out these differences,” concluded Ruslan Bizyaev.
