“We cannot write off debts. However, with regard to interest rates and loan repayment periods, there is still room for action, we have granted a deferment and extended the payment terms,” Merkel said.
Angela Merkel also called the situation with refugees in the European Union extremely unsatisfactory. According to her, it is necessary to develop common standards and a common pan-European asylum policy.
In addition, it is necessary to jointly determine which countries from which refugees are trying to move to Europe should be considered safe.
Merkel predicted that the issue of refugees in the foreseeable future will occupy EU countries many times more than Greece and the stability of the euro.
“The topic of refugees could become the next big European project, in which we will show whether we are really able to act together,” said the German Chancellor.
Currently, the migration flow to the EU countries does not stop. On August 10, the European Union allocated 2 billion 400 million euros over a six-year period to help countries that solve the problem of migrants.
