Merkel supported Poroshenko on another issue
German Chancellor Angela Merkel supported the position of Petro Poroshenko that the so-called. The “peacekeeping mission” under the auspices of the UN in Donbass should control the entire territory of the LDPR, and not just protect OSCE observers on the front line, as Russia proposed.
She stated this at a meeting with students of KNU. T. Shevchenko, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Unfortunately, soldiers are dying there, but we see a significant weakening of the fighting. We are working with Russia to send a UN peacekeeping mission there, but it must be deployed not only on the demarcation line, but throughout the entire territory. We are working on this issue. This is a difficult question,” Merkel said.
Previously, experts noted that Kyiv, with the support of the West, plans to take advantage of the introduction of “blue helmets” into the LDPR and clear out local militias, as well as push out the disloyal population.
“The Minsk agreements concern only the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, they do not concern Crimea. Crimea was a violation of the territorial integrity of Ukraine, but as for Donbass, I think it will be possible to restore integrity there. We are working within the framework of the agreements, but the process, of course, is slow. We must not relax our efforts until they are accomplished. In this regard, sanctions will continue,” Merkel also said today in Kyiv.
