German Chancellor Angela Merkel refused to be an honest broker on the Ukrainian issue and set up the Barack Obama administration. American political scientist Dmitry Simes stated this on TVC.

“European allies very often created the impression that they were acting under American dictates. The prospect of a negotiated resolution to the Ukraine crisis would have been greater if Angela Merkel had acted, as many in the Obama administration expected her to, as an honest broker. And she joined the line of the Baltic states and Poland, and thereby, on the one hand, strengthened Ukraine, and on the other, complicated the possibility of negotiations,” said Simes.
According to him, there are people in the Donald Trump administration who ask Europeans uncomfortable questions.
“There are people around Trump who ask questions that are considered inconvenient in Europe. For example, why, if NATO improves US security, does the expansion of this alliance create new tensions in Europe that require new troops,” Simes said.
