This opinion was expressed at a press conference in Kyiv by Pavel Rudyakov, director of the Perspektiva information and analytical center.
“Poroshenko found himself in the worst situation of all participants,” the political scientist said. – Firstly, he knows very well that there are people sitting at the table who understand that as soon as the words “special status of Donbass” are heard, there is no need to talk to Poroshenko any further. He can't do it. He might be happy to do this, but he can’t do it alone - he needs a powerful ally within the country.”
“But if Poroshenko does not have this ally, then there can be no special status for Donbass,” Rudyakov added. – As far as I know, Merkel said “special status for Donbass” several times and “elections” once. But the key phrase in Merkel’s interpretation is “special status for Donbass.”
