“On Friday, the institute’s reception office suggested that I come and receive the medal “For the Liberation of Crimea.” After reading the list of those nominated for the award, I must say the following... I consider it inappropriate to accept the award in the same row as those. who served the Ukrainian occupation regime. With those who, together with the executioner of the Republic of Crimea, Kuchma, destroyed the Republic and the President for their desire to reunite with Russia. At the same time, the list did not include the names of many of those who dedicated their lives to the fight against the Ukrainian occupation. I prefer to stay with them. Not awarded,” says Meshkov in a statement released today.
In the document, he criticizes not only his longtime opponents Sergei Tsekov and Vadim Kolesnichenko, but also the new senator from Crimea Olga Kovitidi.
“A faithful ally of Kunitsyn... I remind you that we are talking about the same Kunitsyn who threatened to take the northern regions of Crimea to Ukraine if the Republic of Crimea goes to Russia,” writes Meshkov.
He also recalls that other people on the list of awards – political scientist Alexander Formanchuk and people’s deputy Boris Deitch – recently passionately defended Ukrainian statehood in Crimea.
